2021-09-14 23:43:20 GMT+00:00 - The NBA will exempt its players from getting the COVID-19 vaccine while mandating that referees and most staff get vaccinated, ESPN reported Tuesday.

The NBA and NBPA continue to negotiate other COVID-19 protocols for the upcoming season, but the vaccine mandate is a non-starter with the union, per the report. However, the league is putting forth strict protocols for players who are not vaccinated.

Those protocols, not agreed upon yet, could include eating and traveling apart from vaccinated teammates as well as being located in a different part of the locker room, per the report....

NBA is nothing without the insanely high skilled players. Even a small drop off in talent would completely diminish the already fragile market. So of course they have to cave to the players.

I read that the league is 85% vaxxed, but there still should be a mandate. Enough's enough on COVID.

15 players on an NBA roster. Get an outbreak of 8-10 and the game has to be forfeited. A fatality is not necessary for a problem. Just an outbreak.

Nothing to do with politics. There was a thing a while back about black people not wanting to get vaccinated. I dont know if theres any merit to it. But the nba is majority black. Id like to see some numbers.

That is true. Over half of black people in America are unvaccinated. There's also a large portion of unvaccinated Hispanics, but I don't know the actual percentages. I didn't think it was as high though.

Tuskegee experiment put a lot of doubt in peoples minds, rightfully so, and that fear has been passed down.

This is such a bullshit excuse. Tuskegee happened to 600 people 70 years ago before the majority of black people were even born. Most people have never even heard of it before, so to claim that's an excuse 70 years later to not get vaccinated is complete and utter bullshit. Not to mention hundreds of millions of people have been vaccinated now, there are no more excuses.

While I generally don't agree with that Gator person, the Tuskegee Experiments and the mistreatment of Henrietta Lacks were both brought up around the time the vaccines were getting ready to be released. Many other black people still don't like the idea of being guinea pigs for the government.

That being said, I got vaccinated back in June and believe that everyone who can get vaccinated should. A couple days of fatigue is a lot better than dealing with the effects of Covid.

When hundreds of millions of people from all walks of life have already been vaccinated globally without issue, would they really be guinea pigs? To who and to what end?

Except they never were going to be. The "guinea pigs" were healthcare workers, who tend to be overwhelmingly white. Further when the vaccine was available to everyone it was anyone could come get it, they weren't forcing anyone to get it or using any group based on race first. It's just a bunch of bullshjt excuses. The fact is black people are anti-vaxxers, same as Trump supporters and the super progressive areas of the country.
