Last time I made a topic cause my beers were 2.5%, but I got this beer called Amnesia Juice and this is 16.5% in 1 pint cans. I think this is the highest ABV beer I've ever drank. One can got me nice lol.

Damn that would be strong for wine even that's like that moonshine stuff they sell in the jars.

I opened a second can, drank about a quarter of it, and I'm like 'yeah I'm good rn, I'm done for now'. So strong.

The last time I had a beer with around that level of ABV it was almost syrupy in texture.

Ugh why must it be an IPA?

Idk. I like strong beers but I don't get why any strong flavor pretty much needs to be IPA. There's always this annoying bitterness attached to it. A little bitterness is fine and honestly interesting, but IPA have this 2nd bitterness wave that seems unnecessary.

High alcohol beers are made either by feeding the yeast a shitton of sugars, or freeze-distilling to remove water. Both end up with that thick syrupy effect.

A fun fact about IPAs: they were invented because ale being transported to India kept going bad before it arrived in port, so the English discovered that if they just shoved a shit ton of hops into the beer, it would act as a preservative and hold over the journey. (thus the "indian" in IPA). They were sacrificing flavor in exchange for shelf life.

Years later, people would forget this knowledge and convince themselves the awful, bitter flavor of IPAs was a "feature" and not a "compromise".

Biggest I had recently was Thimble Island Rum Runners Reserve Mutually Assured Destruction: they took their Russian Imperial Stout and stuffed in Caribbean rum barrels for 6 months.
It was surprisingly smooth, but very obviously high in alcohol lol.

That makes sense. I don't even get how people think certain vodkas taste good or not. Honestly I think most alcohol out there tastes like shit, you only drink it to get drunk. Idk if I'd ever choose to drink it without there being alcohol.

It's sometimes printed on the can. The higher it is the more bitter it is.

I couldn't find an IBU on the can or online. Def not the most bitter IPA I've had.

Stouts are nice. A lot of times when I pick something to drink, I just go by the can art or name or whatever. Just whatever grabs my attention; makes it fun. I'll keep that in mind though.

That's a barleywine? I've never seen one that dark before. Also that's a great glass.

yeah, the american style barleywine is lighter in color, usually kinda hoppy as well.

the English barleywine isn't quite as dark as a stout, but darker than American, and a loooot sweeter. think figs, toffee and so on. plus the extended time in barrels adds color as well
