I disagree. This game lacks the oomph and polish that Ultimate has, and looks pretty soulless and kind of janky. I know that Sakurai's team is much bigger than Ludosity and has a bigger budget, but it doesn't change the end result.

Of course, I have no nostalgia for Nickelodeon, so that also doesn't help me.

You can't copyright mechanics. That's not how copyright works. You could copyright the exact source code that implements them, but not the idea itself.

You could theoretically patent them, although not really sure anyone would be able to demonstrate that their games are sufficiently original to secure a patent at this point.

Yeah, this is the one thing I can credit Nick All-Stars Brawl for, though rollback can't really work in a game like Smash unless it's just 1v1 on the most basic of stages and settings. Otherwise, Smash has way too many variables involved for rollback to be a viable option as of now (Sakurai said that he did look to implementing rollback during development, but decided against it, likely for those very reasons).

Not quite. They have six aerials split between weak and strong, vs. Smash's five, and half of the Nick aerials seem to just be air versions of their ground moves.

I really wish Sakurai would have just lowered the frame rate and graphics resolution in the 1 vs 1 For Glory mode, and used roll back. 99% of players who want to play somewhat competitively dont give a shit about how pretty it looks lol

The competitive scene is pretty big in Japan too, I dont know how Nintendo didnt just get their input on what they think would be the best way for online competitive to work? Elite Smash is trash, even if it did have roll back.

The issue seems to be more with Sakurai than with Nintendo itself. Nintendo seems to be find with online modes in their own in-house games, such as Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, and ARMS. Sakurai seems to think that a ranking system wouldn't be fun, hence the mess that is Global Smash Power. And it's not like he's completely opposed to competitive gameplay, especially given his history with fighting games, but I guess the incident where he utterly curbstomped a newbie in one of the King of Fighters games in an arcade back in the 90's really stuck with him.

With enough support and time that will likely change. That and and game is releasing for all consoles so it really only has competition for for genre on one console.

And even then depending on how fun the gameplsy is along eith it's netcode smash players may transition if only because it's online is playable.

I thought it was a meme game at first to, but I've changed my mind. The devs have done multiple of these character moveset reveals, have said they want to have great netcode for competitive play, are Melee fans, and I've seen seen a hotbox graphic for SpongeBob that I think is official. All that shows a lot of dedication and I think it could be legitimately a good game.
If it does well enough the sequel will probably have more characters and voice actors, so I'll be buying it day one if I can.
