What do I tell a friend who thinks there's no point in getting the vaccine "because you can still get it anyway"?

Yes they live in Texas and yes they want to visit their grandmother who is already unhealthy, yes I'm worried.

Tell them thats cool and their own personal choice and that you still accept them as a friend because youre not a judgmental douche.

the people needing ventilators and ICU beds are in fact the unvaccinated at this point.

If you are vaccinated and get it, it is more akin to "the flu"

the vaccine is less risky than the virus and helps reduce the spread

but you also can't convince everyone

I know of someone who describes her entire family having had it, with no deaths, and so says it's no big deal and completely overblown. definitely not going to convince her.

Why bother wearing a seatbelt? You can still die in a car crash while wearing one.

I've had terrible luck convincing people of things they don't want to believe, but have had a few small breakthrough instances when I'm directing someone towards extremely easy to view stats/graphs/charts. Some don't translate well, others do.

one piece of advice might be: no matter how obstinant a person comes across when you're discussing something with them, you are still providing them with useful information for them to process later. sometimes such a person can come back the next day with a slightly adjusted perspective on the situation despite having appeared immovable the day before.
