Perhaps the problem is that we are in front of too many Marvel movies that are nothing more than a cut and paste of others, Villeneuve said. Perhaps these types of movies have turned us into zombies a bit But big and expensive movies of great value there are many today. I dont feel capable of being pessimistic at all.

Another big director, not just Scorsese.

Don't fix what isn't broken.

Marvel ain't here trying to me a cinematic master piece

They just want to be fun movies (make a buck too)

I love Marvel movies but he's kind of right.

Kid with mommy/daddy issues grows up, gets powers, saves the world from someone who was once a friend/mentor and becomes a hero. Love interest is someone they never expected to be with.

Zelda has had more variety than most other long running game series.

There's massive differences in just the first 3 games. LA was the first one that was really "cut and paste" and then it went right back into weird territory.

Arent we taking the MCU for granted? They had a small hiccup on Incredible Hulk, but assembling the Avengers after having their own movies like that? Oh, man. Theres never been anything like it.

Its the scale thats impressive. Theyre like the modern nickelodeon. The worlds giantest tv show.

Marvel & Disnsy kept expanding it and reversed the formula for Spider-Man with Sony (because he actually appeared in Civil War with the others before getting a solo trilogy) ~ its been a wild ride, man.

Yeah, a lot of the beats & style & even the arcs can cross the line from cohesive into filler sometimes, but consider the scope of this thing. Its had its fair share of movies that needed a little more. Ant-Man 2 & Guardians of the Galaxy 2 demonstrate how a standout movie can get lost in the familiar imagery & be remembered as dull. on the other hand, Captain America shows us how the movies can be so unique & look great, and just totally have their own thing, and this great cast, and people love the whole thing, but the actual ride just isnt worth sitting through more than once or twice, and it fades quick, but you can carry that flame onward.... and thats what theyve really capitalized on since then.

They arent cinematic masterpieces by themselves, but as a whole..... come on..... its the magnum opus of conspiracies and interconnected universes and cameos and lore and relevance fans have been dreaming of for ages. Thats where comics came from, man. All these people like you and me sitting around marveling in awe at these movies and how they link up, and getting into the Lovecraft Circle stuff, and mythology, and how all that relates, and translating that into their own comic book universe. The old monsters movies did it too. People love that stuff. Heck, I mean, comparing it to real world legends & folklore isnt far-off.

Theres something satisfying about the psychology of it. Its a universal language. Comics reached their peak by the time our generations dropped out, and the kids love the CGI, and it just all clicks. It had this chemistry that goes beyond any one trilogy and we can acknowledge it as more of a whole compared to the trends Hollywood usually tries to only allude to and never acknowledge or its frustrating because all this red tape prevents the crossovers we want and its just the sort of thing that makes us create stuff like the Marvel universe or the Nintendo universe. there's at least half a dozen marvel movies where the main protagonist fights a villain with the same powers as them. I'm not counting x men btw.

Hulk
Iron Man 1
Captain American:Winter Soldier
Ant-Man
Dr Strange
Black Panther
Captain Marvel
Shang Chi

Well the films are committee made, they often have it all done using a mix 3d assets, animatics, virtual cameras etc and get a lesser known director who hasn't worked on much and tell them "make it like this".

They'd never hire a Christopher Nolan or David Fincher.

Denis Villeneueve is basically the best "new" director currently making movies, to the point that its practically indisputable and if you dispute it I will bop you on the head.

His only flaw is that I can't get his last name down.

while plenty of hero movies are derivative and unoriginal as fuck, there's a couple of them that manage to stand out in some way, even if the formula doesnt change drastically.

It was easier for me. I heard his last name countless times in the 90s and 00s because there was a famous Formula 1 driver that had the same last name. There's a circuit in Canada named after his father who was a driver as well iirc.

wouldn't it be funny if a superhero had a final "fight" with a long intricate dialogue piece instead of action?

the closest we got was doctor strange and even then the effects crew were probably working overtime.

He's not wrong. Many of Black Widow's VFX sequences were completed before the script was. Marvel movies aren't cinema, they're extended advertisements made by incredibly talented people with an enormous budget.

The thing is, with superhero media like this, the story, emotional and action beats are laid out in a very specific and similar way for all of them.

That's why people say all marvel movies are the same, cut and paste etc. If any one of them deviated or laid those beats out in a different way it wouldn't be a marvel movie anymore and fans would not like it, no matter how interesting it turns out to be.
