I deleted a part of my post where I was calling for Tik tok to delete those videos. I dont actually know what would be an appropriate response/action from them, but I would like to see something, even if its a simple disabling of the hashtag. But alas, Im not an expert on social media moderation practices

The right response would be to take down the content.

Im no expert on social media moderation practices either, nor am I an expert in the ethicality\legality of entrapment or related techniques in manipulation. Nor do I care. Nor should I. Theres lots of ways to get people to do what you want & achieve the best result, but the ends dont always justify the means.....

So, regardless of which hoop anyone thinks is the best to get these folks to jump through before they stop committing crimes & bragging on a multimillion-person public platform about it..... the right thing to do is just remove the videos and begin prosecution. Send the videos & all identifying information to the police. These kids are just snagging stuff from schools. Its not like some agency needs to lull them into a false sense of security to determine the hierarchy of their organization & whos sitting at the top of it. I dont think were worried about them going into hiding, and if theyre potentially dangerous. lol

but

They are kids. Outside of potentially panicked reactions following the initial aftermath of committing the crime.... the longer you wait, the more accustomed to their situation they will become or the more paranoid of consequences the perpetrators will become. And, the more paranoid & accustomed that they become, then the more likely they are to act irrationally when confronted with consequences for their actions. They more they may plan to run, or the more they may get used to the idea of being a criminal. Start handing out slaps on the wrist, show leniency for cooperation, and I bet a lot of kids will actually turn themselves in. It might be a good experience for them.

Just letting these kids think nobody will do anything about it is not a good lesson to give, example to make, standard to set, impression, nor precedent.....
