Why is a sealed copy of pokemon diamond like $500?
Sales data says they sold like 18 million copies of diamond and pearl so like 9 million copies or so of diamond should have existed. But most got opened? Even used copies seem expensive. Is this gamestop fault for throwing away the boxes? ... Copied to Clipboard!

A bunch of older games that are still factory sealed are listed for stupid amounts. The question is, how many of these game are ACTUALLY selling for hundreds of dollars?

Never replaced a single battery. Are you referring to Gen 2 specifically or your other games? Gen 2 pokemon tied the day/night system to a battery on the cartridge. So did Gen 3, but Gen 3 will still work properly even when dead. Just kills all the time-based events. Having an original Gen 3 battery that works now would be pretty rare. An original Gen 2 battery working would be even rarer. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Oh wow didn't realize you could send from gen 7 to 8. Yeah, for now there is still a straight line from r/s all the way to s/s. Having sealed copies might be a way for someone to ensure they have access to those parts of the chain in the future, but eventually the 3ds will be completely shut down and obsolete. I imagine the remakes are meant to fill in some of that space. --- We all ate the biscuits, Fighter. We can all see through time. [ER] ... Copied to Clipboard!

$500 is probably appropriate. Compare MTG prices or anything nostalgia related. Limited supply and increasing demand as a large generation finally gets wealthier and is able to afford nostalgia. Compare to nostalgia prices on 20s, 50s, or 60s items. Maybe one day we'll see "American Pickers - video games."
