She was a newer employee so they said they wouldn't pay her for the time off (they had a 90 day policy for taking sick time). My old old job (two jobs ago) let me go after the company got bought out, and I'm 99% sure it was because I was the youngest person in my department and didn't have any kids (the other 4 people did).
