I'm talking about the original.

I wanted to watch the movie in preparation of going to Universal's Halloween Horror Nights. I've never seen the film on DVD or Blu-Ray. It's never on any cable or streaming service at the time I have the service. I had one chance years ago to catch it on IFC, but it was too deep into the film. (I watch from the start or I don't watch at all - a rule I've had since I was 14.)

Right now, it seems to be a part of Showtime services. It wasn't on Showtime years ago when I lived in a house that had Showtime. But it's on Showtime now that I don't have access to the channel or any streaming services.

For being such a classic, one would think the film was readily available.

@sLaCkEr408___RJ

Yeah, it seems as though it also allows you to create a Watchlist and also have them tracked as well.

Nice. Does it have info on which edit/cut the film is? I'll always worried about accidentally starting a censored tv-ma version.

I just watched it. Um, yeah. It still holds up really well.

Some of the scenes of violence - both shown and implied - definitely show their age. Compared to the slasher films which followed in this film's wake, the implications of a meat hook on the wall don't hold up quite as well.

But the suspense is still top notch. Franklin is slightly stereotyped, but there are genuine moments of humanity that make you feel for him when you know something bad is coming and he's going to be helpless to do anything about it. That's the true essence of horror: establishing the credibility of the characters as people and making the audience feel for them.

And that chase at the end is legit.

I never considered TCM a slasher film. The original was a suspense thriller/horror and the sequels were black comedys.

I guess the remake could be considered a slasher.

I wasn't calling it a slasher. I was just comparing its presentation of violence to the depictions of violence in the slash films of the 1980s.
