Assuming TC is young, it can be difficult to confront approaches to sexuality that you weren't previously exposed to. Perhaps not so much in the Internet era, but I certainly remember having my horizons vastly expanded on moving from a small town to attend university in London. (I was born in the 1970s.) Tricky sometimes to overcome the prejudices ingrained in youth, but with time and some thought, you can see past them.
