Yeah. That shit has existed in the past like 5 Tales games. It's not required AT ALL. It's a money sink for impatient people I guess. Fire Emblem games have the same thing.

They've been doing this shit for the longest time. I don't buy any of that DLC. The costumes are usually tie in bullshit that don't make sense in the context of the world, but I'll buy one or two pieces if I like the look of them.

The pay to boost is whatever. I rarely find it causes issues. Very ignorable in stuff like SMT IV.

In game currency is gross though. Seriously just make make sidequests pay good money.

i haven't seen the DLC xp boosters. do know of costumes.

Yeah, Bandai Namco is fucking up Arise with it's DLC. It's not just cosmetics tied to the costume DLC either. Exclusive character artes for each character and skills are also tied to them as well.

This has been a thing since Tales of Vesperia on the 360. It's not new nor is it required.

I didn't even think of that conversation in that light, but I see it now. I thought it was weird as hell because the outfit IM had just been given is almost entirely blue.

It's incredibly in your face. When you have a rest stop in the game, a time to slow down and unwind a bit while going through a zone/dungeon/whatever, there's just flashing indicators to not forget to buy the new DLC packs.

One thing is that the DLC exists and I find it annoying that costumes, at least so far, are scarce and there's day one dlc for them, and microtransactions bs. But to actually put DLC promps and advertisements into the game itself as you're playing it really is grotesque. If I wanted to alleviate myself of any of Bamco Nandai's generous garbage, I'm perfectly capable of exiting to the menu and going through their PSN shortcut button. I don't need reminders while playing. But of course that's the point.

Lol wow they are really upping their game. Japanese games especially niche ones that most people don't know exist seem to have insane amounts of useless DLC at equally fucking crazy prices

Okay, but I didn't play those games. I don't know if they also have some of the worst DLC practices I've ever seen.

This criticism basically amounts to that I should have known this shit was in the game, and therefore its acceptable, which, to me, is a ridiculous defense even at its own premise.

You must not have seen many games then if Tales of Arise DLC is the worst you have ever seen.

The bad thing about the DLC is that the Costumes come with Titles that have skills in them. I'm 15 hours in playing on the hardest difficulty and have not once felt pressured to grind or buy the EXP, Gald or Level DLC. The game is balanced around not having any of the DLC.

And yeah, I can't remember the last time I played a game that prompted me in-game to go buy DLC. I know Dragon Age Origins did that, but I haven't played that in a decade, and it was not near this intrusive about it.

They saw how successful shoving dlc in your face was in mobile games that they try to replicate something similar to get more $$$$ out of your pocket.

But as long as it's only cosmetics and not pay to win bs I usually let it slide. The only time I hate bs like that is if it's a gacha/loot box bullshit.

The worst in-game ad for me has to be Bravely Default, where the characters will allude to the fact that you can get SP without closing your 3DS or whatever. It's so fucking awkward actually hearing characters mention sleep mode or whatever.
