I thought I'd be good today since with the maintenance complete I won't have to see anyone for a few more months... but I have a housing re-inspection at a 'random' time sometime next week, so I just know next monday i'm gunna be like... "ok, flush the toilet every 15 minutes to keep it maximally clean. put on new deodorant at the same time to remove additional scent, wash the clean dishes again so they look 'recently' cleaned, microwave some soap every 2 hours to freshen everything else, dust the dust then dust under the dust and then somehow put the dust back cuz i need my dust... check internet, ok, clean house again, make sure every plushie is facing the right direction, make sure no part of my warhammer collection extended past the shelf 'cuz that might be perceived as mess, hide all my laundry under the bed and couch so it doesn't look like I ever am messy EVER"

dang it - I hate people

Make sure every single rag, cloth and carpet in the apartment is at exactly 90 degree angles or it might be construed as mess!!!!!!!!

Is there someone you can call and talk to that knows your situation? A family member or counselor or something maybe?

If its too overwhelming then just do whatever moderate amount of tidying up that seems reasonable for you to tackle, and if your landlord wants to give you a hard time just explain that youve been struggling and it is difficult for you to manage deep cleaning the entire place on your own.

That's the problem - I'm happy to do the moderate, even exceptional amount of tidying that I normally do, so when I'm told further to 'tidy up' without any additional context I internally die inside... what else is there, how can there be a better, like, at all?

ask for that. Bring it up before the place gets checked out even and let them know you are uncertain of what they are taking issue with so you dont know where to direct your energy. If they say they arent satisfied with how clean your place is then ask them to be more specific so you can understand what it is that they expect

I don't mind cleaning up to above my normal levels - I mean, I have to impress my rare guests.

But when I am told to do better it's, like, excuse me? I just 110%'d for you... go die in a fire.

It's probably a good idea to start showering and brushing your teeth every day. At least until this surprise visit is over with. Trimming the nails once a probably wouldn't hurt either. Keep some deoderant handy for quick application when someone knocks on your door.
