Yeah this is... not great. Silent characters with loud, generic sound effects is a terrible call. Some character models are awful (seeing Patrick there is just uncomfortable, and is especially weird given the Battle for Bikini Bottom remake last year that handled the character models much better). Grabs look awful. Was really hoping this wouldn't just be another CN Punchtime Explosion but it's looking like it actually might be a step down from that

There's some small hope that voices get added in later if the game is successful enough. It's a very small chance obviously but it happened with the Power Rangers fighting game but so it's not completely unheard of.

That being said my casual friends who play Smash were pretty turned off by the level of mechanics in the gameplay breakdown. Smash is successful because easy to learn, hard to master but this looks hard to learn for people who aren't used to fighting games.

I'm still looking forward to it because I play fighting games but it's definitely not the party game I thought it would be.

You can break down smash like this too. I don't really see any new mechanics that aren't in smash, just different ones. So it might seem confusing if you're really used to smash, but it doesn't seem that much deeper. I guess a lot more universal options can seem more complex, but it doesn't have to matter to casual smash.

I think it's just when Nintendo does a gameplay present, they basically tell you nothing that isn't extremely basic (for good reason)

It does seems to have a few more mechanics than smash. Like strafing, and smash attacks in the air, grabbing projectiles, and the rock-paper-scissor effect to high-low-mid smash attacks.
