Standard game, no DLC. I've played a shit ton of 3 and NV, but never touched this before, just been sitting in my Steam Library collecting mold.

Any spoiler free tips?

It's a good game, but the story sucks. Just know that. It's spectacularly boring and predictable

Don't worry about the main mission, it's a Bethesda game after all.

I actually like to role play in my games. My last Fallout character was a samurai with a topknot and only used swords.

Fallout 4 is best played with a character you create. Also, try to enjoy the crafting system for what it is, not what it isn't.

I still need to replay it. Havent touched it since a month after it released. Actually got bored of it pretty quick once i crafted that explosive shotgun. Made combat too easy

I dont think the game sucked at all. Had a lot of fun with it for at least 60 hours or so

Meh if I wanted a story I'd play some long winded SNES JRPG. Right now I just want to shoot things.

Use mods. Makes the game fucking amazing.
I generally like to play games vanilla my first run through before I go crazy with mods.

Hey now Morrowind's main quest was amazing. Then again that was in 2002 >_>

Give it a shot. It okay for exploring.

I went back into New Vegas after putting 80 hours into 4 and Vegas was waaaay better in less than half that time.

I hated building settlements at first but ended up loving it. So dont just say fuck that if you dont like it at first. I ended up building some crazy shit. Even had an extension of nuka world in the first town.

Speaking of if you wanna be a true villian type get nuka world. You can join and become the boss of a group of raiders. Which is the only true evil faction you can join. The bad guys of the base game are the noble intentions through fucked up methods kinda bad guys.

yeah, i usually find that all the people who hated it were only ever doing farming shantytowns with it, and were actually giving a shit about making the settlers happy and not worrying about doing stuff that might cause pathing issues. throw all that shit out the window, and let your imagination go wild with it, and it's some pretty fun stuff.

i did a secure test facility at The Castle for that teleporter thing, i did a historically inspired abbey at Abernathy Farms, and i did a Minutemen embassy to the BoS at the Boston airport. had a blast with all of them. i had plans to do more too, including a huge, multi-towered memorial teaching hospital at Spectacle Island, and a Minuteman airship dubbed the MMS Paul Revere to rival the Prydwen, but i never got around to it.

I did a run too where I made pretty much the entire map raider camps and slave camps. Even farmed bomb collars to make them wear. I always play a pure evil character im Bethesda games. So nuka world was a dream come true as fallout games usually dont have pure evil villain factions.

Honestly, I feel like a lot of the hate Fallout 4 gets is because people constantly compared it to New Vegas (which was developed by Obsidian, not Bethesda) and because the MC is voiced, with a very specific backstory (which drives roleplayers nuts).

The game is great and I have a ton of fun playing it. The story obviously doesn't top New Vegas, but I enjoy the gun combat much more in 4. I actually recently repurchased 4 on PC (bought it at launch on PS4) and have been messing around with mods for a very fun playthrough. I absolutely love the settlements system with mods. I'm 53 hours into my playthrough and more than half of that has been spent building things. Some of it I let the settlers build on their own (Sim Settlements 2 mod), while others, I want to pick everything out myself.

Yeah, if you do enjoy the game and decide to mod it, several of the larger mods require most, if not all, of the dlc. So keep that in mind.

oh. yeah i didn't really care for Nuka World tbh, cuz i played a goody-goody and then when it came to doing the content for Nuka World, it was either take that goody-goody and make him into a greedy, unrepentant psychopath, or miss out on a whole bunch of content and achievements. that was kinda poorly conceived on Bethesda's part.

I loved it. They could have made a goody goody path (that's more than just kill the leaders and be done with it) like have you refuse and you get enslaved and start a resistance faction. but that's the only thing wrong with it imo.

Nuka World is great because going Open Season leads to probably one of the best all-out battles in any Fallout game. Of course I take over every area of the park first.
