I worked out for 3 months straight, 6 days a week. I had VERY small improvements. Literally, I could maybe do 0.5 pullups instead of 0. I worked my ass off too.

However I've always been a lanky, skinny guy. If this basically genetics? Not making excuses, if I were dogging the workouts, I would admit it.

Diet isn't perfect but still decent. 60 ish grams protein daily, lots of carbs. Almost no added sugars or oils. Lots of meat and vegetables.

Gained about 10 pounds. No way of knowing if it was fat or muscle.

That's a start. Try some whey protein shakes after your workout. The more protein your body has to build muscle with, the more muscle you will build.

Need more.

How old are you?

edit: to answer the question certainly genetics has a role in the amount of muscle you can gain but I'd be hard pressed to find a case where someone couldn't gain ANY muscle, outside of like some rare genetic disorder

60 grams of protein a day is low. Like, REALLY low. Even for someone skinny and sedentary

You're born with all of the muscle fibers you'll ever have. Working out just destroys them and makes them regrow larger. The only way to increase the amount of muscle fibers you have is to take steroids.

noob gains should be a factor, if nothing else

you worked out different things among the days, ya? Or was it literally lat pull downs six days a week?

You were doing so well until this sentence...
Steroids just help your muscles regrow faster. So you don't need a day off to recover.

I'm just regurgitating what my PT told me. He's a really smart guy. I was just passing along the knowledge he gave to me.

nah. i wouldn't worry about genes too much, i'd re-evaluate your diet and workouts. 10 pounds in that amount of time isn't bad at all.

Unless you take steroids, it generally will take 9 months to a year for an average low discipline workout regimen. Took me about a year to have huge noticeable difference. Then quit after 4 years because got tired of the lifestyle. Although .5 pullups after 3 months is very suspect. I was able to do one handed braced (other hand on my wrist) pull ups around 6-9 months. But by then I was doing pull ups with 50 lbs on my back.

Do bench, squats and deadlifts. Try different weights to see how much you can lift without struggling and do reps until failure. What i did was eat a bunch of rotisserie chickens from wal mart they usually have them cheap at night, tuna packages/cans and drink weigh protein in milk.

get a blood test done, you should see some progress in terms of weight/reps for whatever you're doing in three months as a noob. i noticed visible progress within three months even with low weights.

Steroids dont grow new fibers, they just make you more receptive to stimulus.

60 grams of protein for the whole day? Isn't that just a typical meal? You need like more than double that iirc

That's not true. A lot of people think you should have over a hundred grams of protein, but that's untrue. It's carbs that you really need, not protein. At least not near as much as people think.

Generally .74g of protein per pound of lean body mass is good.

I'll have to look up noob gains. Unless it just means gains as a newbie. I try to do everything, legs, back, triceps, biceps. Probably forgetting some things off the top of my head. Some cardio workouts too, and some yoga.
