Tbh I'm tired of working my ass off for a promotion, and then for the promotion to me taken away because they want to take advantage of me.

If I had a choice, obv I would rather get paid more, but low pay is nice because I don't have to give as much of a shit at my job.

For example, one of the maintenance workers couldn't come in on a Saturday to fix an apartment issue for a tenant because he was "out of town". His answer? "Can you do it Chunkey?" His way of rationalizing it was "it's really easy to do".

I told him "no. they do not pay me enough to do it". Could I get fired for that? Maybe, but I also make low pay so I'm not kidding that much money on the process. I could find another job with the same or similar pay easily.

If a job doesn't pay you a lot, basically they don't have as much leverage over you and you don't have to take shit from them. And that's nice.

Ya, there is something to be said about fuck off jobs.

Though you should always consider that as a placeholder until you find something better.

sysadmin at a school: hey uh the internet is down but like it's 4pm, take a look at it tomorrow please

Would I like an extra 30k a year? Yes. Yes I would.
Would I want to do actual work for 30k extra a year? hahaha no

I personally prefer the higher pay I get. To each their own.

I dont blame you, but you can refer to nothanks1's post

The key is being in a position to not give a shit about losing your job. That's true freedom. I prefer the path of being paid enough to live off savings for years. Similar results, but cushier.

I'm a pretty low maintenance person, I don't need many luxuries and I make enough money where bills are paid with some savings left. I'm kind of with you, I could easily move up my position to a job where I make a boat load of money but work 3/4ths of my life away, but I love my lower paying position that has almost zero responsibility and I get much more time to myself.

Disagree
I prefer 'being a position that they need you'
They can't fire me without being absolutely fucked for the rest of the school year and possibly for the school year of 22/23

Even if they did manage to replace me school IT is fucking chaotic and you need to be incredibly flexible
and also good at consoling students who are having panic fits

there's also a very good reason I insist on not having them hire someone to assist me. So I am needed even more from knowledge hoarding

Makes sense for that job but for my job very little would change at a lower pay place.

True. Not much does change, but I change in the situation. The lower the pay, the less I generally give a shit.

Learning to live poor does pay dividends, if you are smart about it.

That can be tricky because being irreplaceable is a matter of them not being competent enough to find a replacement. The replacement is out there, but the employers are either too comfortable or too dumb to know how to get that replacement.

Living poor with a lot of money is way better than living poor with little money.

The person I replaced was terrible
As in 'hey all the teachers get password1 as their login and it can't be changed' terrible.

It took an issue with a student reporting him for ask her for drinks (age is 18 and she was 18) during a weekend to have him quit before an investigation was complete because he literally would have been fired at the very least

Schools are desperate here. Like they don't have the money to just say to a company 'here's 100k, fix the last guy's shit and keep us running'

That is what saving, and learning to cook is about.
But yes, most low level employees are woefully underpaid.

My ideal job is low responsibility with decent pay and low or have full control over my schedule.
