It appears Gavin Newsom will be staying in the governor's mansion for awhile longer as early ballots from the recall election are of any indication shows he will beat Larry Elder and all the other losers trying to replace by a landslide!!

Nearly twice as many democrats as Republicans have returned 4.6 million mail in ballots after the state sent out 22 million eligible voters in Mid August for the Sept. 14 recall election

It largely mirrors the party's registration edge in the state of more than a 3rd of those who have voted are 65 and older

A poll released by Public Policy Institute of California found that 58% also opposed the recall with just 39 supporting it

60% of those surveyed also approve of his handling of the pandemic an issue Republicans have hampered on with locksdowns and covid mandates

Another from SurveyUSA found him beating Republicans by 8% as this is his most favourable poll heading into the final weeks of the recall.

There are still unknowns however as younger people and latino voters who generally lean democrat aren't showing up in expected numbers and many wonder if that will change and are Republicans waiting to vote in person than send in ballots

That happened in 2020 when it helped GOP recapture several US house states in heavily democratic states but it's hard to judge how it will turn out in the end

Campaigns are ramping up on both sides to increase voter turnout but are facing distractions from back to school preps and massive wildfires.

Democrats are targeting ads against GOP candidates by casting them loyal to President Trump who is unpopular in the state

I don't like Newsom, but the other D choices don't stand a chance so it's an easy call to make.

Oh well, if Californians like to be nudged around, so be it

Its not like Elder would stop the biggest problems in the state anyway (the 3 months out of the year wildfires, the homeless and the flow of illegals)
