I had played games before but I didn't much like platformers; I liked Link to the Past a bit but could never figure out how to get very far, played a few RPGs but that was it aside from Warcraft, which I loved.

Dad came home with a PS1 one day in summer of '98. He got my sister some dumb platformer type game(probably 40 winks) where you're a kid running around in his dreams and dodging crazy scientists. I think my brother got Frogger or something like that. He picked out a game and thought 'Oh hey he'd like this'.

It was Resident Evil 2.

I was 7.

Obviously, great game, but I was broken forever afterwards. Now I love horror and RE, but damn, 7 years old lol? Maybe 8?

Anyone else have good stories about their first games?

The Lion King that was bundled with the Mega Drive. It was the first game I ever played so I'm guessing my parents got it because I loved the movie.

It was either Kirby's Dream Land with a Gameboy for Christmas or Sonic 2 bundled with Genesis I bought myself. Don't remember which was first.

Wake up. You have to wake up. *currently a preta/hungry ghost*
Dai Grepher: I was wrong. My entire theory is incorrect. Zero Mission IS a remake of Metroid.

Both solid titles. Few game boy titles can stand up at all today, that's certainly one of the few.

Do you mean independent of what you told them you'd like? Like a surprise game?

My dad bought me Donkey Kong Country for my birthday. I think he mostly bought it for himself.

When my mom got us the SNES in 1993 we got Super Mario World in box and TMNT IV on the side.

Me buying my own game? Probably something in the Game Cube era.
