HP ENVY 4500. Says the cartridge is depleted, but they're brand new. They came with the printer

So I'm thinking there is another issue, but I don't know what it is. There is a Red Red light, a blinking yellow one, and there is an LCD thing blinking E and 4

It's most likely that ink expired or dried. You need new ink.

Pro tip: if the vast majority of what you print is B&W, get a cheap laser printer. Toner never dries out.

I got a mono laser, and 4-color inkjet running generic ink.
Seems decent so far. Laser is still on the toner that came with it, years ago.

this. i just changed the black toner in my laser printer i bought years ago. had it been an inkjet i'd have gone through a dozen carts since then, mostly because they dry out.
