This movie was really something special. I've never smoked meth or lived in a house full of users before but this movie really gives you a window into that world.

The visual style is pretty nuts, some type of photoscanning animation technique is used and it's pretty effective and trippy. I don't think I've seen this technique used in anything before or since.

My favorite thing about the movie is probably the performances from Robert Downey Jr. and Woody Harrelson as the lovable but unstable meth head roommates. You can tell they really went all in on these roles and became these characters.

This movie also has 2 of the funniest scenes I've seen in any movie ever

"LET'S JUST RESCUE THE ORPHAN GEARS, DUDE!"

The animation technique is called rotoscoping. The director of a A Scanner Darkly, named Richard Linklater, also used rotoscoping in his previous movie, "Waking Life"

A Scanner Darkly is a good movie based on a story by the famous science fiction author Philip K. Dick. I would recommend A Scanner Darkly to anybody interested in Philip K. Dick. Other movies based on Philip K. Dick are "Minority Report" and "Total Recall"

The part I remember most is when the dude tries to commit suicide, fails and instead of dying he hallucinates a giant alien being listing every single bad thing he ever did in his life.

I've never taken meth but I can absolutely relate to that
