I'm visiting a friend there this weekend, and I don't have much planned. Is the Nintendo store there worth going to? Is that a lame thing to ask about?

The Nintendo store is fun to check out, and the Lego store and FAO Schwarz aren't far from it
Other than those:
American Museum of Natural History
Madame Tussauds
Ripley's Believe It Or Not (right next to Madame Tussauds)

Food-wise, maybe Levain Bakery for some cookies or Amorino for some Gelato

I'm a newcomer to the city, but I can vouch for the Museum of Natural History. The Public Transit museum in Brooklyn was cool too, though it isn't air conditioned, so be aware of that.

If you don't mind spending money, the US Open is happening this weekend.

It depends on how "touristy" you want your visit to be.

But like others have said, the Museum of Natural History should be one of your stops.

Nintendo store is legit great to go to. FAO Schwartz is a lot of fun too, though not as big as it used to be.
Midtown Comics is also pretty cool for pop culture shit. It's a huge comic store with a ton of other merchandise.

In general, go wander around Rockefeller Center. It's like a cool underground city.

Also, as other people said, go to the Museum of Natural History as well. If you're even remotely into art at all, go to the Met.

For food, there used to be a conveyor belt sushi restaurant in midtown but I don't know if it still exists. I think it was "Yo! Sushi"

Who the hell goes to NYC for a dollar slice? Go to John's of Bleeker, go to Lucali, go to Lazzarra, go to Di Fara, heck you can even go to Sauce, but don't get a dollar slice.

Nah, most dollar slices are better or on par with that pretentious bullshit.

the skywalk was really cool.

and I also enjoyed getting a roasted pork and duck at this place in China town, absolutely bargain of a food considering nyc is expensive. And Central Park/one world trade area.

dollar slice is fast (they pretty much always heat it up and serve it in less than 2 mins) and good as fuck for the price
