I have a question for the people who dislike the change made with Leon.

I'm guessing they're still in pre-production. Suppose, hypothetically, that they changed the character's name. He's officer Ruiz Quintana. Functionally, he occupies the same role as Leon S. Kennedy without being Leon. He's a rookie cop, he and Claire are survivors, Ada Wong is his dubious love interest, etc. Would that be an improvement or not?

(Firing him to get a blond haired Caucasian is not an option.)

Then why call it Resident Evil if theyre not going to do Resident Evil? Its just shameless bait and switch that gullible fans of the games keep falling for.

Change Claires name too so she isnt Claire Redfield. Also change Chris, Jills, and Weskers names too. Then change the name of the movie so it isnt called Resident Evil. Only the names though, keep everything else like appearance and story the same. And nobody will have a problem with that as it would then be completely unrelated to Resident Evil.

Leon looks like Louis Sera from RE4 and Claire looks like she's 35. She looks older than the actor playing Chris.

Its really something when more care and attention was given to the Van Damme Street Fighter movie. A few costume colors and designs were wrong but they did make an effort. And this was back during the negative stigma of videogame movies getting it wrong to the games. And now its even worse.

I don't know. He doesn't look like Leon.

I think I'd rather just have him be an original character. It's not like the protagonist has to be Leon. The important part is that it's about people fighting zombies. It just really takes me out of the story when a character has a specific look and they depart from it. (I still haven't gotten over James Blond.)

It is like they systematically went down the line and inverted everything. Dark hair instead of light, long hair instead of short, goatee instead of cleanshaven. You know what? I didn't complain when they made Luigi a cleanshaven Latino. Why get annoyed at Leon getting a new look? There's a 90% chance this movie will be better than that one.

Its better to just think of James Bond being the code name for several different agents rather than them all being the same single man.

And videogame magazines back in 1993 did complain about Luigis lack of a moustache. But only one sentence saying that it was a swizz, and not full articles about it. From the one magazine I read back then that covered it.

No youre right. Redfield being Scottish pretty much confirms. Ive got some friends named Redleaf so Redfield being a Native last name wouldnt have surprised me. But yup! Chris is a white boy.

I'll be shocked if there is ever a good live action Resident Evil movie. The plots in the games are so stupid and the characters are shallow as fuck so good luck adapting them.
