Progressive and Alternative

They werent as iconic and as hard hitting as the first series, but i enjoyed them.

FLCL was my "coming of age" anime that really got me into the medium. I watched it on AS so many times back in the day, i always dreamed of getting more. The first series was only 6 episodes.

They are on CR for anyone who wants to watch them. I dont think you need a membership for this series

They were okay.

Not great, but okay. Mostly forgettable, but they'll give you a smile or two. There are worse ways to spend a few hours if you loved the original, though I have complaints that I don't want to mention due to inherent spoilers.

#2 was very similar, not bad but obviously derivative. They tried to explain some of the bizarre space lore, which ruined the magic a little.

#3 was completely different. It was like a girls after school club anime. Cute but bland and not FLCL basically, except some chicks dad got a job on Mars so she has to move.

Which shows us that we didnt really want more FLCL. Same or different, its not right.

#2 was sort of forgettable and tried too hard to retread the original. It's not super old, but I've already forgotten most of it because it never really...tries to really do anything unique or super interesting.

#3 was genuinely good. I felt like it had some really good plot beats and told its own story. It was very different from the original, but I felt like it was a really solid story in its own right.

Major spoilers for 3:

The Pets episode was a huge gut punch and was a moment that stood up to some of the best moments in the original. The entire reveal with her motivation and then the dream with her staying before she coldly walks away was a very, very strong moment.

And also, #3 is strongly hinted to be an alternate world prequel to the original, which was in itself an interesting reveal and dynamic since it was otherwise so unrelated to the original.

Just remembered, anyone who likes FLCL should check out Punchline.
Guy gets knocked out of his body and hangs around his apartment building/dorm? as a ghost to figure out who stole his body. If he sees panties once he becomes super saiyan-esque, but if it happens again; a meteor collides with the earth and wipes out all life.

2 was just bad. They went in way too deep with the metaphors without establishing any sense of normalcy, and as a result, there's no weight to any of it. Naota had a bunch of weird circumstances around him, but we could tell they were weird. Naota, his room, his friends, they were believable people in believable settings, even with some exaggerations.

3 was ok, but it felt like all the parts that made it "flcl" were out of place.
