On a personal level, same way I didn't mess with them shoes, I also don't mess with the boards. That being said, Lil Nas X used a lot of satanic imagery which, given the social sphere that he occupied, caused a lot of people to express different emotions. Also, there was the whole thing about Nike not approving the usage of their sneakers.

Also, Lil Nas X is way bigger/culturally relevant than Tony Hawk.

It could be prejudice or it could be that people don't like the shoes having satanic imagery. There's certainly going to be an overlap with some Christians. There's a definite irony with Christians being bigoted. You believe that God made all people. Christ spoke of unity. But people still make up their minds, "Nah, I'm better."

It's impossible to dissect it and get to the x-factor. If some White rock star releases satanic shoes and nobody gripes, then you know it's one of the other reasons.

The music video wasn't really "satanic". The entire thing was about queer persecution throughout history, ultimately with him "going to hell" as we're all too often told we will. Then he kills Satan and takes over because he's a king, so really evangelicals should be lauding him.
