It really doesn't make sense though. Why would the Taliban attack while we are leaving? They already won. They have control of the country now. They do not want to provoke us to stay and continue fighting.
I'm probably just giving them too much credit to think logically

Could be lots of reasons ranging from them just being morons, to people in their ranks not caring to others wanting to cause trouble/chaos or they just want to "send a strong message" thinking it will force the West out.

Yeah, this is the work of a (stupid) Taliban faction or another group like Daesh, which is active in Afghanistan. The leadership already got what it wanted and doesnt want to stir the pot ATM.
Naturally, the Daesh and Taliban are bitter enemies, as each thinks the other isnt doing fundamentalism right.

ISIS or another radical Islamic offshoot.
They desperately want to kill Americans so we'll reverse our decision to stay and keep fighting them and occupying Afghanistan.
So they can continue to recruit fighters and followers from all over the Muslim world.
Fuck that we've done enough and paid enough.
Go on schedule get every American out and then we're done with Afghanistan.

Most people forgot about that military fuck up early in Trump's term that led to the deaths of four American soldiers. And the media were more than happy to ignore it,so much so.
That most people in America either don't know about the incident or forgot it happened.
What's the odds that the supposed liberal media absolutely crucify Biden for the 4 soldiers killed on his watch. After giving Trump a free pass 4 years ago for the same loss of life.
This country fucking sucks sometimes.

I think the problem with the media in this regard is that Trump did and said dumb shit almost every day of his presidency, so the coverage of that particular issue just fell off the radar pretty quickly.

They"ve come to a split because they're now at cross purposes.
The Taliban want to just run Afghanistan and turn it back into the theocratic fundamentalist hellhole it was under them previously.
They have no appetite for global jihad or attacking western targets outside their border.
ISIS need the western occupation of Afghanistan to continue it is a massive recruiting tool for them in the Arab world.
It is also a training ground for foreign Islamic fighters to come and learn guerilla warfare
Only the best tend to survive.
They then go back to their home countries and teach others how to fight and terrorize their western friendly governments.
All in the name of a global caliphate.
You are likely to see the Taliban fighting foreign ISIS terrorists soon.

What I still don't understand is why Bagram Air Field was abandoned. That's a much more strategically sound place to not only defend but has multiple runways for flights and you can setup staging areas to help facilitate better than the logjam of humanity at Karzai Airport.

You think they want crazy over that?
Watch what happens here.
Calls for impeachment, resignation, crying widows of dead soldiers clutching tearful children on the tv cursing Biden
Warhawks and talking heads calling it the worst disaster since Vietnam.
They are going to do everything they can to get Biden to step down.
And it won't just be Fox News, CNN,MSNBC,ABC every major news media from the YT to the NYT will crucify him for this.
Not for the loss of live but that he dared to actually leave Afghanistan.
Strap in guy.

https://www.nationalreview.com/2021/08/why-did-the-united-states-abandon-bagram-airfield/
If we were to keep both Bagram and the embassy going, Milley said, that would require a significant number of military forces, so you had to collapse one or the other.
Milley also said the generals estimated that the risk of going out of Bagram or Karzai International was about the same, but he also acknowledged that President Biden did not leave enough troops for a scenario in which an evacuation was necessary to hold Bagram, protect the embassy, and protect Karzai International.
Milley said their mission was to keep the embassy open and get the level of troops down to a 600700 number.

Best they could do with the resources available, while prioritizing the embassy.

At the height of the Covid pandemic under Trump. 3,000 Americans were dying a day.
And you think this is a fucking nightmare?
We were losing 100 people every hour of every fucking day for weeks.
So spare me your histrionics and pearl clutching over the deaths of 11 soldiers in a war zone.
