Should I report this to my boss?


I've used up 4 of my days from earlier this year. Just found out they didn't count any of them at all when I tried applying for a day off, so I still have all 14.

Also, the way the 'database' is managed over here, I don't have to worry about them finding out either.

What do CE?

It's on them for not managing better. You don't have a responsibility to help them keep track of their own exploitation... just make sure that if it ever comes up later to feign total ignorance and that you only went off what the system said you had.

Ah. Now, if it's a good company that treats everyone there really well, report it. Otherwise, just act like you didnt know if anyone ever figures it out. I mean we would all assume that the company tracks our stuff accurately, yeah?

That's how my manager is. It takes most people several weeks to get paid out for their vacation because he always "forgets" to pay us. It's happened to me twice this year.

Tell him you are going to "forget" to not report his ass for that and the various other health/safety/workers rights violations they no doubt have.

So I've had the same issue but for different reasons.

My work just doesn't really care about keeping track of vacation time as long as you aren't abusing it so they sometimes never actually deduct a day from us.

Years ago I took over managing a supermarket at short notice because the previous manager was fired for being a rapist.

Turns out he told all the people who work there (some who had been there for years) that their annual leave lasted until the end of the financial year.

It didn't, it lasted from January to December.

I took over in early November and during the Christmas rush discovered that almost my entire team now needed to take almost their entire leave entitlement or they would lose it.

It was a nightmare, we were shortstaffed at the best of times and now I had hit the ground running with a new team in a new store with a permanent skeleton crew during the busiest time of the year.
