It is a beverage not a soup.

Soup is a beverage

Id say the broth component of a soup can be considered a beverage, but soup as a whole is not, since it is a combo is liquids and solids.

Perhaps we can consider it a very peculiarly pulpy juice.

Orange juice with pulp is soup
And single-substance liquid by definition cannot be soup even if that liquid is partially solid.

What about like tomato bisque soup, where it's all one consistent liquid?

A traditional bisque isn't a consistent liquid but even if we are going with a modern watered down version of a bisque that consistency is achieved through blending of water + tomatoes so it's at least two ingredients. Something like V8 is a better question but probably just falls into the beverage category as well.

Isn't that the same as a vanilla soy latte then? It also has multiple ingredients blended together.

Coffee is water + ground up coffee beans tho. That's two ingredients.

The distinction here is that the coffee grinds aren't in the coffee itself. It's just the water flavored by coffee compounds.

Now if you did dump the grinds into the water I suppose you'd end up with some foul tasting porridge but that would be technically a soup.

So does it become soup if you put sugar and cream in it?

No. Marshmallows are not part of the composition of the hot chocolate they are a garnish.

You guys are arguing over soup? Soup doesn't need to have anything solid--soup is literally liquid food. The word comes from the Dutch "sopen" which means "to dunk" as in a liquid you dunk your bread in. So, yeah, a vanilla soy latte could literally be considered a "soup".

Are you also going to argue if a hotdog is a sandwich?
