I imagine it would be better to spend that 100 dollars on a good camera lens. The Canon 17-55 is one of the best DSLRs for under a hundred dollars. It is not a pro camera, but it does the job well. I would stick with Canon.

Then again, the Canon Rebel is the best choice for a beginner who doesn't know much about cameras, and it comes with an 18-55 kit lens. And it's very inexpensive as well. There's no point wasting your money on a really nice camera that you won't learn anything with.

My best friend has a Canon Rebel T1i. It's the latest (and best) model, it's light, it's small, it's got the 18-55 kit lens that's great for beginners. You don't need a professional DSLR. You can actually learn photography with a Rebel. This is the absolute cheapest camera that can take good pictures. I know this isn't what you want, but it's important.
