You see, the caterpillar must spin out long threads of silk in the manner of a spider, and the spiders usually do a much better job. The most effective way to deter predators is to give off a warning display with your wings. For example, if you were a Monarch Butterfly, you might do that with the brilliant orange-yellow wing spots that give your wings their name. Monarchs are so effective in the display that they seem to do the job better than their predators: "I was never scared of an adult tiger," says the caterpillar, "and that's not my reaction to any predators in these tests." One could argue that a predator is simply a larger version of a natural predator that would prey on you or anything else you might like to eat. It is that, and it is, as the caterpillar has suggested, a "normal" response. A predator does come in various sizes, TC. The caterpillar's enemy is generally larger than the insectbut not always. Their English name is similar to the word Phalanx which in Ancient Greek context meant a formation of men armed as heavy infantry. They also have what appears to be a Corinthian style helmet and a round shield, most likely styled after an aspis, which matches what people think of a Spartan's kit. Oh and obviously their unique move is a call back to the 300 Spartans. --- Aut viam inveniam aut faciam. Particularly special defense: this thing should be really resilient).
