Then they brought in breeding in Gen 2 and didn't change the name to something less weird.

I'm not sure how Pokemon work. Aren't they just stored in balls? Why do they need to be looked after?

For that matter aren't they wild animals before you capture them, as well as members of society who hold jobs, and also eldritch horrors that are capable of warping reality?

Is day care a front for the SCP Foundation?

They are stored in balls, yes, which is why a daycare where they can run around free is nice for them (also gives them exp but that's a game mechanic not really part of the story)

They are similar to wild animals but they seem to be much smarter and are easily domesticated (all it takes is capturing them) so I feel like they want to be captured they just want to make sure it's the right trainer

No daycare is just a daycare so they can spend time in the real world with other Pokmon

i mean like your topic points out, nothing about it makes sense if they're breeding. wailord and skitty can cause an egg to appear, but obviously they can't breed. you never get genetic defects even from multiple generations of direct inbreeding. the speed at which they produce eggs is utterly bizarre if the eggs are produced through breeding, ect., ect.,

makes much more sense that the eggs simply appear mysteriously, just like the day care owner says. people always complain that the pokemon franchise is illogical or whatever, but its always because they just ignore the dialog that explains whats going on. they substitute in their own headcanon and then complain about their headcanon not making sense

Considering your character is usually like 10 years old, I'm sure the daycare owner just doesn't want to have "the talk" with you and it's easier to explain it as "mysteriously appeared".

Even when they are with the Professor, they are usually running free. Being in the ball seems to only be a thing when with their trainers
