Galaxy Expedition Team - Team Galactic was big into multiverse and time travel stuff, which was hinted upon in Pokemon Platinum, and Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon as well. Guzzlord's wormhole universe is a far future version of the mall from Sun and Moon.

There have been very subtle hints regarding a much bigger plot (The Looker, etc) that spans the entire series. Can't help but wonder if Team Galactic is trying to change history or something.

If you look at the city that they're in, the technology seems relatively out of place for what is supposed to be thousands of years ago in sort of a Bronze Age-ish Pokemon world.

They just say "distant past" No exact time frame is given

That could be a few hundred years. Pokemon world tech is highly advanced and generally a rather harmonious one that is NOT a rapidly advancing fuck the environment late stage capitalist society like much like our reality(not to say pollution and greed don't exist but the scale and commonality of it is nowhere near what it is in our world)
