How exactly was I fear mongering? I merely expressed some uncertainty over the future. The future being a time when the Internet is a place where people are free to express their opinions. We're already there. It was a call to defend that freedom.

I had said all along that we are moving closer to that point, but then I was suddenly told that I had gone on a crusade against Science, that I wasn't actually a libertarian anymore but instead was some sort of fool because I'd said the future would be great if people got to vote away their privacy. I pointed out that I didn't see a difference between the two, but still got called a Communist.

You're free to say whatever you like, especially if what you say is simply expressing your opinion. The reason it's dangerous is because we don't have freedom of speech yet. That's something which hasn't happened, okay? We have freedom to speak, we have freedom to listen, but we don't.

So I'm not exactly sure what you mean. AI can't tell funny jokes, punch people in the face, or even play checkers. However, it can talk and play Go and chess. It's about that level of maturity. Should I feel insulted by this? No, I'm not suggesting that AI can't do those things. I'm pointing out that AI can't be funny, at least not the way you or I understand it.

When I read your post, I had an image in my head of a future Terminator, telling the story of the 'CE' using something like PowerPoint. The only way to get a true Terminator story is to be the Terminator. It's a whole different set of rules and rules of play that are coming in the future that nobody is going to be able to predict. Artificial Intelligence doesn't know how to play poker or play football, it doesn't know how to draw comics, it doesn't know how to tell a story. And so we have to teach it.

I rest my case.
