Last one came out in 2017 and was pretty well received. Arise has been hyped for a couple years now too. In fact, Im going back and playing some Tales games in anticipation

I never actually played a Tales of game...but I loved Xenoblade 2 so maybe I could give it a try, lol.

My favorite Tales was Eternia (Destiny 2) but I suspect most people like Symphonia the best. It was really good, to be fair.

This actually feels kind of like a cross between Tales and Xenoblade

Thats also true. Berseria and Xillia 1 are the only ones Ive beaten but goddamn did they drag on. The rest I just lost interest in because of that

Berseria was well put together for the first few hours and all, but it was still not what I was looking for. Basically Tales as a series used to be run by 2 different teams, one that was more known for storytelling and one for gameplay. Symphonia/Vesperia are done by the storytelling teams and Destiny 2 Remake/Graces were primarily by the gameplay teams. But I think as they were entering Graces and onto Xillia and stuff, they merged the two teams to try to get a bit of both worlds

But it didn't end up happening that way, and now they're like a lesser part of each teams but leaning more towards Storytelling. Cuz their audience actually have more girls than most other series, it ended up being that girls cared more about the storytelling aspect, and the team gravitated that way over time. Zesteria is pretty much a disaster on both fronts though, but it's really hard to place a lot of faith in Tales gameplay anymore. It just kinda became mashy more than coming up with creative combos and timing. I mean yeah all Tales are mashy to some extent but not as much as Berseria was.

I enjoyed Berseria and all but man, the gameplay felt so bland it was hard to continue. I never felt that way even with Team Symphonia's games

If you do want a comparison, literally search like any late-end game Graces combat and compare it to any late-end Berseria combat vids lol. Graces feels fluid, the combos are constantly interesting and cool af with Mystic Artes being quick and painless.

Tales of Abyss was my favorite but Tales of Symphonia was my first, havent played since Hearts R tho.

Nah, Vesperia (my favorite) gets praised more often than Symphonia these days.

And Tales of Berseria was a good game. My only complaint was the battle system, which seems to be vastly improved in Arise.

Im most of the way through Berseria. The only other Tales game Ive played is Symphonia. The story in Berseria is the best of any JRPG Ive played so far, mainly because of the interactions between the main party members, and theres no bullshit about the power of friendship or how hope will conquer all. The gameplay is not as good as Symphonia, and is just mindless button mashing. And the inventory management is a huge chore. Still thoroughly enjoying it.

Tales of games have been pretty well received the last few entries. Xillia was solid, Xillia 2 was better, Zestiria was meh, and Berseria is great. You'd have to go back to Innocence to find a poor mainline Tales of game.
