After I got out of highschool I started being more critical of the "conservative" values my family had pushed for ages. Ironically, it was Christian values that made me critical of the values of my christian household. (Stuff like love thy neighbor is kind of hard to reconcile with being a legalistic dick. Even racists can have black friends - racism isn't exactly rational. --- We should strive to create a world of love and compassion. EngineerGamer 08/21/21 7:44:47 PM #15:	i guess i just can't relate to having your parents have that much of an impact on your beliefs. i was raised by somewhat conservative religious parents and passively progressed to being a center-left atheist by the time i was out of high school. i think a big part of that shift was seeing the reaction on the right to obama's first election and finding it completely absurd (funny how quaint it seems compared to the shit that's happened since), but i guess if i were the type to adopt my parents' beliefs wholesale that wouldn't have happened? it wasn't a rebellious thing either, my parents liked obama and i lived in a liberal area, so it wasn't like i was getting back at people around me <cite>EngineerGamer posted [p:957310047] in it weirds ...
