So the team who did the extra DS only trial on the original trilogy went onto make the Miles Edgeworth spin off games
And the original creator was so busy making Ghost Trick and the Prof Layton crossover, Capcom had the spin off team do the main series 3DS games.

And since the main series was already being taken care of, the original creator now makes the Great Ace Attorney games, now considered a spinoff.
