DeathSentence wants to get as many Floridians killed as possible because he knows his chances of being reelected to the governorship are becoming increasingly fucked, and he's angling toward the national vote instead.

Since the GOP at this point is an actual, literal, no-shit death cult, the higher his body count, the better a candidate he makes.

Everyone's obsessed with Desantis, but it's not like Florida is some statistical outlier right now.

https://datausa.io/coronavirus

Per capita, Florida's outbreak is among the worst at the moment. But it's not the worst, and there are some blue states with much more restrictive measures and higher vaccination rates right up there with them. Hawaii has a low case count but is going up very quickly. Rhode Island is steady but has the highest number of active cases.

I don't see any justification for preventing schools or local governments from having mask policies, but I don't see particularly compelling evidence that it would make a big difference either.

Meanwhile Florida is doing reasonably well for vaccinations (21st for first dose, 22nd for second dose). On the page below you can see data showing that the outbreak is almost entirely among the unvaccinated (they don't have data for Florida, but all the states they do have are really consistent):

https://www.kff.org/policy-watch/covid-19-vaccine-breakthrough-cases-data-from-the-states/

Seems to me that peoples attention should be directed toward getting vaccines approved for children. What's taking them so long on that? Bad risk management.

Shut up. Just shut the fuck up.

The data seems to disagree with you.
And if I can wear pants everyday, you can wear a mask. Why do we need to justify this? This is like a trolley problem of, "Pull the lever and mildly inconvenience some people, or leave it and kill 1000 people."

Mask mandates and compliance rates don't seem to have much correlation with the timing and scale of outbreaks. I'm not saying they can't work on an individual level, if you have a proper N95 mask, wear it correctly, and keep it on at all times. But that's different from whether it's effective to have a mandate that some people follow an some don't, some people wear medical masks and some wear cloth masks, some wear them right and some stick their noses out, some keep them on and some are taking them off to talk or when people aren't paying attention, and so on. Statistically on a broad population scale, they don't seem to be doing much.

But also it seems hard to justify mandating masks for everyone for the sake of protecting those who have chosen to forego the much more effective preventive measure of vaccination. And it undermines the case for getting a vaccine in the first place.

A) So that's your interpretation- I'm asking for a source that statistically shows that masks are not statistically effective at slowing spread in schools (the original law he passed)

B) Your second paragraph is making a lot of broad assumptions as well. First why is it hard to justify that? People who don't get the vaccine for whatever reason can still be expected to wear masks to protect others. To drive a car you only have to have insurance that pays for others, getting insurance to cover costs for your own car is completely optional. Second what proof is there that relaxing mask mandates will increase a person's chance or desire to get the vaccine? Is there a provaccine anti mask subgroup that is significant?

I've been on this site longer than you have, and my posts are always reasoned, sincere arguments backed up with data. You're welcome to disagree, I might be wrong about things, but I don't troll or shitpost ever.

At least Hangman is trying to use data to back up a counterargument. The response from the TC is to "shut the fuck up", which is probably the most immature way to respond and makes you look like you are losing a debate. In fact, I thought telling someone to STFU was moddable.

I mean, people are shitting on "leadership" in Mississippi and Louisiana too. Desantis just happens to be the most publicly recognized governor of the group. I don't know what you mean by blue states with restrictive measures being right up there with them, the link you posted has nothing but conservative-led states plus Oregon as the worst current situations per capita.

Yes, crazy how political bullshit has turned something objectively good, like defeating a global pandemic, into some political debate where people think their dumbass opinions matter and should be respected. There are feelings and facts and one view has to win, so it might as well be the one that isn't fucking insane and full of obvious lies.

We're killing millions of global citizens because everyone wants to feel special and correct.

Yes, they are. Good thing I've become a much better person in the 12 years since then. I'm very proud of myself, tbh. I used to be a shitty person in my 20s, most of it do to personal hate and depression after watching all my friends leave me. Since then I've been a really good person, and have been sober for almost 8 months now, the last terrible thing in my life is done with. I'm very proud of how good of a person I am, you're not going to take that away from me.
