Yeah, he tried to only pay me for half of my hours so I contacted the dept of labor and he sent that paycheck real fast

If you don't need the reference there's no reason to stay

Never quit with no notice.

I have walked out before. Collected myself then came back. That's almost shittier than quitting.

When I was 19 I worked at Taco Bell, and was called on a scheduled day(my birthday) off because they had no staff. I got a ride up there, as quick as I could, like they asked. I forgot to shave, so I had stubble. The district manager showed up, and told me I had to I had to go home and shave, then come back. I explained that I lived a few miles away, and didn't have a ride either way at this point, but he just said I should have shaved and to go home and do so. I got pissed and made the biggest burrito I could, and told them I was never coming back.

I walked out on another place that was trying to make me drive a box truck while on painkillers, after we agreed I would be in the warehouse after I had my wisdom teeth out.

I quit my lead supervisor job at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, They had me by myself taking care of an area that was the size of three square blocks. I had to dump all the trash and clean the bathrooms all by myself while my superior was screaming at me non-stop because either the trash cans would be overflowing with trash or the bathrooms would have no toilet paper and water would be everywhere. And she would be standing in front of the food hall talking to other managers doing jack all nothing. I just got fed up and left. By the time when they started looking for me I was already in my car driving home.

I now work at a state college taking care of lab animals and getting paid double what I was making to pretty much to do nothing. And I've been here for 13 years.

Once.

I didn't get paid when I was supposed to. Chased it up and kept getting fobbed off. After about a week of chasing the pay that I was due, the manager told me that it might come in the next monthly pay packet. I walked out on the spot. They asked me to come back for a while but my response was that I would come back when they paid me for the work I should have already been paid for.

In the end I got a solicitor to chase them and they paid pretty quickly after he contacted them. By that point I already had another job.

Once. I was waiting tables, had just started a job as a real estate agent, and was collecting unemployment during the big recession of 2009ish. I was always the type to stay and cover shifts if someone called off and one night I couldn't stay. They kind of forced me to. I called in an hour before my shift the next morning and quit. It was a job I hated and I had just had enough.

No repercussions.

I just starting looking for state jobs and found this listing at a state college and I applied for it. It took 3 months before I got an interview which sucked but I applied for unemployment. And they started my off at $10.10 an hour now I'm up to over 15 an hour.

Yeah, at Speedway once. It would very often be busy, so I wouldnt finish everything before the end of my shift. My manager would told me that I had to stay over, off the clock, and finish cleaning, or she was going to cut my hours harshly.

Did it once. Felt like an idiot. Second time I told her to eat shit and left.

Twice. One job was only scheduling me 1 hour a week but then telling me I coukd go after just 30 minutes. Wasn't me was the fact the place hardly got any business at all so they where being super cheap about labor. After getting my first paycheck and it was like 6 bucks I just never came back.

Another time cause we got super busy right as my shift was supposed to end. I was clearly frustrated but I was still working. Manager told me I could go on home. I even asked if she was sure. Then when I came back I had a write up waiting for me claiming I refused to stay over during a rush. This manager was racist towards white people. Caught her saying racist shit. And she was always riding the white employees asses while letting the black ones slack off and do basically jack shit. Like she would chew me out for talking to a co worker despite I was still working but would let certain others hang out in the dining room for hours on end. So yeah I was a dick about that one. Came in and dropped off my uniforms right when I shoulda been clocking in the next day

I've quit 2 jobs without notice, and it did not negatively affect me later.

MCI: Telemarketing.
  • This was the worst job I ever had. About 2 months into this job, they had an awards assembly. I got my award for perfect attendance, then once the assembly was over, I told my boss I quit and walked out.

TJ Maxx
  • They cut my hours from 20 hours/week to 15 hours/week, so I quit without notice. They threatened that quitting without notice would affect me, but no job afterward ever asked about them even though I put them on my resume.

Shop-Rite: the owner refused to pay the waste management bill for 2 months, and when they finally came and emptied the dumpsters, he made me go out there and clean up what was left laying around. 90+ degree weather, with maggots and garbage everywhere. No PPE, just a shovel.

When I finally got back in, none of the other employees even knew I was out there. They just said "wait, you did all of that by yourself?" I didn't realize how fucked up it was until I saw everyone's reaction.

And never got a thank you. I didn't walk out, but I didn't go back.

When I worked at the amusement park as a summer job in HS, I fucking hated it. On my only off day one week, I went apply to deliver pizzas at dominos, they asked me when I could start because they needed drivers bad. Ended up training the very same day and getting put on the schedule. Just no called no showed the amusement park forever (haven't even back as a patron, and this was about 15 years ago).

Don't regret it, that place was the worst. Since then they've been sued for circumventing child labor laws (mainly working kids under 16 too many consecutive hours without a break) which I definitely observed almost every day working there, surprised it didn't happen more often

I worked Wal-Mart for about 5 years. A girl that worked there for about 1 year ratted me out to upper management for pushing carts through the front door and quit on the spot. I was getting written up for a couple of stupid things, so I quit.
The girl who ratted me out didn't last more than 6 months after that.

No but I should've. I did summer camp for a few weeks and told them I'd take a few days off to get my braces put in. He "forgot" about it and thought I had walked out (apparently this was common, hmm wonder why) but said he was willing to hire me back for half of what I got paid before. Then he "forgot" to send me a check after that so I worked the last 2 weeks for nothing.

Me and another guy got written up for talking too much. We weren't even loud and we still finished our departments, but this was when they just started to push people to move onto other areas after we were finished (specifically scanning items into the back, which wasn't even our job or paygrade).

We had to sign a paper saying our talkative behavior lowered the morale of the team

Yes, I was 17 and hated working at the store. The manager was awful.

Now I will always give a 2 weeks notice if I leave, especially because I have worked at the same place for 12 years now out of college. In the professional world you never want to burn a bridge imo.

But retail, fast food, etc? You are expendable in their eyes, so I don't see why you should give notice.
