And other weird things they do.

Like it's hard work, progressive overload, olympic weightlifting, kettlebells, cardio. And it's a thing you do in a group and it's fun because you're not just spending 2 hours in the gym alone.

I have some friends always trying to get me into CrossFit (as crossfitters are wont to do). They've made amazing physical progress in under a year.

But then...those goddamn fucking kipping fuckaround whatevers they do...

CrossFit would be amazing if it wasn't for the people that do CrossFit.

I used to coach at a gymnastics strength training gym and was a guest coach for a CrossFit's gymnastics portion a few times

They actually recommended being very comfortable with strict pullups (I think it was 15 pullups) BEFORE attempting the kipping. The kipping pullups engage the core more. I was surprised they weren't just cheater pullups

Seemed like people who hurt themselves were always jumping ahead in their progressions.

In the end I found CrossFit to still be goofy, like these people could have a lot more strength gains in a traditional setting. They didn't get anything from doing 100 kettlebell swings and 5 minutes on the fan bike

crossfit would also be amazing if it wasn't fitness madlibs performed in a social, competitive environment that rewards performance over personal safety.

I haven't looked at it much, but after watching them pullups and shit like that, I couldn't take it seriously...

my biggest pet peeve with exercises is form. I do the same shit over and over and just work toward doing them perfectly.

If Crossfit gave any shits about proper form over team deadlifts or whatever stupid crap they do, it would just be lifting.

And yeah lifting is good.

I like that they actively work on cardio, though. There's a lot of guys in my gym who can hit big squat numbers but would gas out completely if they tried to run 3kms. I think thats pretty poor.

Generally, people who are power lifters don't do as well with cardio and vice versa. More muscle mass burns more oxygen, which is why the best runners don't want to put on too much muscle mass.

If I did CrossFit I just wouldnt do kipping at all. Just regular pull-ups. Kipping is a waste of time.

I did crossfit for a couple years prior to the covid lockdowns. You don't actually have to do the kipping at all. It's just something that helps you complete the pull up if you either can't do regular pull-ups or you can't do a lot of them. Every time we had pull-ups in the workout for the day, they gave multiple options for doing pull-ups. For example:
  • Regular pull-up
  • Kipping pull-up
  • Banded pull-up
  • Ring rows

Yes but also powerlifters tend to be almost proud of of how much they don't do cardio. And there's a tendency for some lifters to think that cardio is stealing all their gainz

Well, I think there would be an argument to make that the time spent doing cardio could be spent doing training that would increase strength
