It's on the recent Conan O'Brien needs a friend podcast. Conan brought up that when he was announced as Batman that people acted like a dog became President. Keaton said this.

At the time I just remember thinking wait. I'm not even offended. Like what do you mean I can't? It was more that I just can't believe people think about this that much. Honestly! What would it matter anyway? Who is sitting at home thinking about that?

Oh Michael you have no idea.

They talk a little further about it. Conan brings up how no one ever says "I thought this idea was stupid but they proved me wrong"

He says later that because it's such a big thing now that he takes it a bit more seriously but he never expected this kind of stuff to be so big.

Yeah that Batman 60s show was huge. Batman 89 had a lot of hype behind it.

Keaton does bring up that he had the advantage of not having to be compared to anyone though and could do his own interpretation. Something that Val Kilmer didn't get to have.

The Adam West show was 20-25 years old then, but it was popular. Also anyone that ever read or talked comic books knew him.

Yeah wasn't he mostly a comedy guy before that? Kind of similar to Bruce Willis/Die Hard. Got pushback when being cast.

What kind of question is this? Batman - even before the 80s - is one of the most famous comic book superheroes

that show still had multiple reruns every day going into the mid 90s though so its not like it just vanished and people forgot.

I remember still seeing The Batman Show in TV when I was a kid.

One thing streaming has killed is the longevity of really old TV shows since you'd often just put ones on when there was nothing else to watch.

Exactly

You never saw it comin!

The most unlikely person, while still technically not being impossible for it to be, is Batman. Come to think, how much do we really know about Mr. Keaton? Rich, charming, famous, but what does a man do with that much money when nobodys looking? This was also somebody that I think Tim Burton felt he could work with, and somebody who he felt could understand his vision.

They ended up creating a masterful performance which has decidedly shaped how Batman is perceived by fans including the voice, and predominate black attire.

this goes with my previous post. Back then you either watched what was on tv, a ppv or a vhs. And adam wests show was on a lot when i was a kid. I remember watching it after school every day in 96.

Another thing that was influential from
Burtons Batman.... Burtbat.... Burtmam? Tim Batman? Whatever...

.... another thing that really stuck was the music & heavy noir vibes. Every Batman soundtrack & depiction of Gotham following it, draws influences from that movie (movie/s. .... theres a sequel). So, I think even the darkest depictions of Batman before that painted him as either a gritty vigilante or still a standard superhero without the mystique or realism brought into Batman from the movies. The movies, I think, are really what turned the mantle of Bruce Waynes alter ego into a living legend ~ the human cryptid ~ the shadow spirit stalking the night ~ that we know him as today. Mythological. Grounded in whats possible. Dark & angry ~ The Modern Batman
