What shortcut?

There's an elevator in sens fortress, but I've learned that most people dont know about it. But it takes you right from the ground floor all the way to the top.

So basically the route is
Anor Londo ---> ride down to sens fortress roof ---> elevator down to sens ground floor ---> elevator to firelink shrine ---> new londo

That said maybe I should just tough it out and try and beat them, as i've learned that getting the large fire ember at this stage would mean killing a friendly NPC and I don't like that :(

I know about the cage elevator, I've just never thought about except to wonder what its purpose is. I guess its for backtracking. Makes sense, I guess.

In new londo there's a mage guy in a red cloak who can give you the key or whatever you need. you either go to him after getting the lordvessel or kill him for it.

What gets me about this game is how much difficulty exponentially increases after you add more opponents in.

Like, 1 low level zombie? 1 hit easy kill. 3 low level zombies? Fucking hell I'd honestly rather take a single black knight over this nonsense.

Yeah, the character isn't a super hero in Dark Souls, so fighting multiple opponents at once is usually a terrible idea.

Incidentally it's something the team that did Dark Souls 2 abused every which way: walk into a room, 3 enemies rise to their feet, rinse and repeat. That and 'humanoid boss with weapon' get spammed for the entire game.

It really punishes you for trying to spam attacks.

I had a decent run just now. Finally beat lautrec and his pals. Turns out the great scythe+10 and a wide sweeping R2 attack takes about 2-3 hits.

I had a decent run with ornstein and smough too. Beat ornstein. couldn't quite get enough openings on smough, though. But I was relatively happy with the run. Means I know I can beat them now.

I then went and found really large chest ahead. Nice lady. Now I can warp. Cool.

Got ganked in new londo ruins though. I have to play this game in short bursts otherwise I lose total patience.

Duke's Archive, Tomb of the Giants and New Londo are all great zones that gets too much hate cause people equate them with Lost Izalith and Crystal Caves. Except Tomb. People seem to legitimately dislike that one. And they're wrong.

The areas after the Lordvessel all have the same balancing, so the first one you do will be a lot more difficult than the subsequent ones, in a downward spiral.

Good question. I'm honestly not even sure. There are immense moments of satisfaction, but also a lot of fucking frustration. The boss fights are cool but the backtracking TO the boss fight sucks. The gloominess is kinda a bit overwhelming sometimes, but the lore is very cool.

I have mixed feels. It's an experience, for sure.

Frampt fell asleep. I didnt want to aggro him by hitting him, so I just fell down the hole. I was surprised that it went ok. I then places the lordvessel because hey its his hole right?

Came back out...he big mad. He disappeared. Stupid frampt.

Like, I found Hotline Miami 2 pretty tough, but it was a blast because there was always progress. I may have died 100 times, but I'm through it now, onto the next opportunity to die 100 times.

Most boss runbacks really aren't that big a deal. After a couple times, you have a pretty good idea of how to run around everything without getting hit before getting to the boss

You can run back to essentially every boss in 1-2 minutes max while running past everything on the way

It's really hard to tell how far away from the end I am. On one hand it feels like I just need to do like 3 boss fights back to back and then the game will end. On the other hand, it feels like I might have 4 additional areas to explore. I guess I'll figure that out.

Anyway, I made it down to the abyss. Turns out taking off that damn ring after you land there means you die. The 4 kings was a terrifying boss, mostly because the abyss is terrifying. But once I got over the fear factor he was the easiest boss so far. He telegraphed every attack and didn't take me long to smack him down. I guess it's because I have a +15 uchigatana now, and I've upgraded most of my gear.

On that note, I'll take a pic of my character. Going for a mongolian invader kind of look. Using the eastern armour set and the boar's head. I realise a spear, buckler and/or scimitar would be more appropriate but I really like the uchi.

I then went to the duke's archives. I met seath the scaleless. More like seath the merciless. Jesus, he buttwiped me in 1 hit and I couldn't even get near him. However this is dark souls, and that almost always happens on every boss fight, so I'm sure there is a trick.

The interesting thing about the Four Kings is that they do significantly less damage if you get right up next to them

Also, that fight with Seath is intentionally unwinnable. It advances you to a point later in the Archives when you die.

Alright guys I have a lore question. why does everyone like the age of dark? Seems horrible.

a lot of that would spoil the DLC and the rest of the series, but basically, things are supposed to be cyclical, including different ages, and continuing to kindle the flame is an unnatural thing.

even the Undead Curse is a result of that, whether it's a direct or indirect one.

The world is supposed to be on a natural cycle of ages of fire and dark. When Gwyn linked the First Flame after the war with the dragons, he disrupted that process.

Alright, I ganked da fuck out of that seathe. He ended up being super easy. I just kited around and stabbed one of his tails repeatedly. And then after did lots of farming for twinkling titanite.

I now have +5 armour everything. Definitely not the best armour set but looks neat.

Went down to the demon ruins, saw a fucking shit ton of taurus and capra demons. And uh...3 hitted them? They were about as challenging as the zombies in undead parish.

That being said, if you make it to the lava fields just know that they're a petting zoo compared to an unpatched copy of Dark Souls. That place used to be quite the ridiculous gauntlet, and now all the pathways have gone to waste...

Age of dark is the age of humans.

Obviously the gods wouldn't want their golden age to die out.

Also if you're on ps4 play bloodborne after this. It will beat "stand back and be patient" out of you.

Be thankful you're playing the remastered version. In the original versions, the lava was so bright it would burn your eyes right out your skull.

Do you mean lava fields in lost ixalith or demon ruins?

I just made it to lost Italian. Centipede bods was easy too. But one of those headless dinosaurs ganked me hard.

They're the petting zoo variety. In an unpatched game they were pack hunters with a 500'+ aggro range. You'd step out into the lava zone and see eight of them charging toward you in the distance. The only saving grace was that they could injure and kill one another as they desperately tried to stomp you out of existence. Fun times....

I died to one of its swipes tho.
