Crazy how well it's held up almost 30 years later.

The close up CGI Brachiosaurus at the beginning of the movie looks a bit janky, but other than that everything still looks really good.

Eh, pretty much all the CGI other than the T-rex in rain doesn't really "hold up" to todays standard, but that's fine and doesnt diminish the film.

This what I mean by saying it holds up. Obviously it's not as good modern special effects but it doesn't take you out of the experiance.

For a comparison I watched the first terminator movie last week and some of it was laughably bad.

I don't remember there being any CGI in The Terminator. Are you talking about the stop-motion robot skeleton?

Because that's also fine. Stop motion is fine.

Every time I see a monster in a modern movie I'm disappointed. Jurassic Park dinos look better than most modern monsters. The shading and movement just look off in comparison to those 30 year old bird lizards. Even JP2 and JP3 dinos look a little cheaper than JP1 dinos.

I'm sorry, but 10,000 of ANYTHING on a PS2 would absolutely destroy your framerate. It'd be like playing chess through the mail. ~johnboy1

The scene that really stood out was when he removed the skin around his eye. It's not CGI, it's just a fake model that looks super fake.

Jurassic Park is one of those that I just don't understand the hype. I saw it in the cinema when it came out and it had been hyped to hell and I just came away from it thinking it was a bit shit.

James Cameron got it right with Terminator 2. You have to mix CGI with practical effects because if you just use CGI all the time your eyes will never full adjust to it and it will start to look phony. Jurassic Park 1 follows that same motto, hence why it still holds up well in comparison to the new Jurassic World movie where all the dinosaurs look fake because someone on the special effects team decided to put CGI over the animatronics.

Were the lightning effects as the Terminator gets crushed in the press not CGI?

I didn't think of those, but are they? Isn't that just image overlay of some effect?
