It's impossible, in a time of war, not to be affected by it. That includes writings.

Terrorists have won.
Capitalists have won.
Americans have lost.

Suddenly, I want to rewrite the story that I'm working on so that the bad guys win. My conscience keeps pinging me that it would be an exploitation of the death and suffering caused over the past twenty years, and the suffering and death that is to follow, but what's the alternative? I don't have it on my heart to right, "Go home team! Go, heroes! Fight, win!"

If they made another Star Wars, they should absolutely have the next entity of the Empire win and make the next trilogy about the consequences of the Rebels having to live under their leadership. I know that Star Wars has always been anti-Republican, and therefore should be celebrating, but the Republican (and likely Democrat) capitalists arm of the US has won at the expense of everyone else. No matter what your political affiliation, it's a fact that the bad guys have won. The war profiteers don't care that the US has a notch in the L column on their win-loss record. They don't care that thousands died for them. They care that they cleaned up quite nicely and they have.

And although the story I'm working on isn't about fighting terrorists or fight capitalists, it seems only natural that the conclusion should see the triumph of evil over good - with a bit of social commentary in that it happened purely because of capitalist enterprise.

Would that be exploitative or is it just a part of the writing process? I've never found the line when it comes to ethics and writing.

wat

Star Wars was about hippy protests to the Vietnam War with Emperor Palpatine being modeled after Richard Nixon. Also, the prequel trilogy had the Bush-like speech with the whole, "This is how democracy dies.. with thunderous applauds."

George Lucas also went on record to say that Barack Obama was more powerful than Luke Skywalker.
