This game is incredibly sick, I love it.

I never got to level 200 but I want to say my Xbox 360 save's around 170ish. I have basically all the best +3 Bitterblack equips, I just played the absolute crap out of it. Even managed to get some Ur Dragon stuff, which while isn't quite as good as the best Bitterblack gear is great for Swag and Brag. I played through almost the entire game as a Warrior / Magic Knight and my main pawn was strictly Fighter throughout. She had a Gold dragon-forged Cursed Light which wrecks everything.

Did you get the remastered version?

Dragons dogma is a "completed" game. Beserk is a work in progress, that is actually still on going.

Remastered is original + Dark Arisen all in one. Honestly the only thing I didn't like about Dark Arisen is the replaced title theme (even though it fits better. I guess)

Original song friggin' slaps though. A perfect song to get you psyched for hearing "Fire works well!" 50 times in a row:

And here's Dark Arisen's theme. It's a good song, I just like the original a lot more:

Played it for the first time a few years ago, loved it. Only regret was getting it on PS3. Didn't have the original, so unlike every Dark Arisen copy on PC, PS4, etc... I DID NOT get all those nifty starter items and even worse didn't get the infinite ferry stone. Combine w/ wanting to advance magic attack w/o actually being a Sorcerer (Magick Archer build) meaning I had to keep running back to BBI or Gran Soren when close to a level up, and dear god... I probably wasted at least 20 hours on that.
In hindsight, PC really is the "master race" in this instance. You can mod the original theme back in and mod the stat growth for all of the classes to be whatever you want, and you get the infinite ferry stone. I normally don't PC game, but in this case it's the best option.

Early on those sword and shield thief enemies can be pretty tough. Plus for a while any big monsters are going to be pretty dangerous.

It's honestly the most incomplete feeling game I've played excluding early Access. You keep going and get to the main city and explore the area north of it going "man I can't wait to see whats next" and all of a sudden the game has you doing quests only around the city before you realize that the entire game is just that small patch of land around it. It started out as an amazing game but I feel like it became rather monotonous or lacking very quickly.

Like streamofthesky said the bandits are challenging at the start (there's a part where you go up a hill and they roll a boulder at you or some shit IIRC). Also the big monsters are hard for a while- the first Chimera you run into in the actual / non-prologue part is very dangerous. Even when you run into the odd cyclops they can be tough to take down. The Hydra fight is AWESOME. I just wish you had the chance to fight more of them except for the ones you'll fight way way WAY later in the postgame area.

The hardest non-boss for a while though by far is the drake in the forest. That thing was impossible for me forever because I didn't have a guy who could jump up and cling to it using assassin skills. Once you can survive long enough though, that's a great fight and you kind of need to re-do it a lot to get your gear regular dragonforged by killing it.

You didn't miss too much. Practically all of those starter items are trash. They looked pretty cool though that was about it. The ferry stone is useful though, I gotta' admit.

This is something I hope the rectify with DD2. The map gives you this feeling that the world is very expansive and that it can all be explored but like Cruddy said most of it can't be gotten to. There's a couple villages / outposts and Grand Soren (the main castle city) then a few places out of the way and some caves here and there. There ARE some really cool places to go to (that coliseum type place with the griffin is great) but yeah it's nowhere near as open as something like Skyrim or BotW and etc.

The real star of the show is Bitterblack Isle. Not only are the enemies really hard there's kind of a NG+ where the 2nd time through the place eveything gets a million times harder. Plus they incorporate random boss-class enemies so you can get attacked by 2 flying drakes or a zombie dragon, then they add these disgusting demon dog things and floating Lich wizards too. And you can fight DEATH! That thing looks amazing when it shows up, even if it does scare the crap out of you.

why do people like that game? nothing about it was fun. the story/setting was uninteresting, the gameplay was uninteresting at best and irritating at worst. I kind of liked the mechanic where you can literally climb on bosses, except for how phony it felt and looked. one of the most underwhelming games I've played in the last few years

For me, I thought the main pawn mechanic was really interesting and different. As someone who almost never plays multiplayer games due to no stable internet, this was the next closest thing. The disparity for enemies during day / night cycles was immediate too (until you become so godlike it doesn't make a difference). Some of the story missions were cool- the one where you have to get a Griffon to land and attack it, trying to save the princess from the king who's trying to kill her, the Mercedes subplot, escorting the Hydra head in the wagon, etc. The items were pretty good, though personally I think being able to skip upgrade tiers was an odd design choice. The character creator is mighty fine and you can make your guys look really good if you mess with it enough. And yeah climbing enemies to attack weak sections was a lot of fun too. Nothing more satisfying than seeing the goat section of a chimera slumped over dead while the rest of it is running around crazy lol.

The stuff I didn't like.. Well like was said before the world is not completely open and you do run into invisible barriers a lot if you try to explore everywhere. Some small campsites felt empty too. The biggest thing I didn't like for sure is how the inventory screen is set up- they give you one for items and one for equipment. It's really clunky. Also it was hard to keep track of when your fish or apples would go bad, as you get like 5,000,000 items just through normal play.

EDIT: The pawns all repeat themselves AN AWFUL LOT. Imagine it being the total inverse of how Hades' NPCs never repeat themselves at all and multiply it a few times and you'll get the idea.

not for me. forced companions is the LAST thing I want unless I can properly control them. nothing worse than having to baby-sit braindead AI, and I especially don't want the game to play itself. if there's an enemy to fight, I want to fight it.

not sure how to say it, but I feel like the game has to "earn" its fantasy setting somehow. something about the whole setting just feels undeveloped or unearned. it's shallow I guess, in a bad way, while pretending that it's interesting. I actually would like super-generic fantasy, but this is more like excruciatingly-dull fantasy.

for me the game is just a whole bunch of things I dislike about games crammed together into a horrifying mess.
