I am kinda claustrophobic too and I can't imagine sleeping like that. I actually thought it would be better to sleep under the shelving and seats he made (where he keeps the adidas bag). With your head facing the trunk, your body is under all that stuff but your head and shoulders would be exposed. If I built one of these I would probably do that.
