54 keys? 61? 88? I'm looking on Amazon and I see a lot of them have their iPads up and have an app that shows them how to play. That's one of the reasons why I got my iPad, but what's it called? I don't know really which questions to ask, tbh. I don't need the bench that comes with them, I have my own place to put it

Do you wanna join a band or just play for yourself?

You can buy pretty much anything to learn on to an extent... it's not as strict as you probably think but you can get really into it if you want

Better spend a little and give up than spend a lot and give up

If you are very committed, you want to look for an 88-key keyboard with weighted keys. That is the closest to a piano youll get. Yamaha makes some pretty good ones that also have a decent array of sound choices.

if youre just trialing it to see if you like it, just go with a cheapish one that is easy enough to play. You dont necessarily need all 88 keys to learn and see if you enjoy it because its just repetitions of the same 12 keys. A 61 key would be just fine for that

This. You won't learn to play the piano with a cheap ass keyboard.

Why's that? Seems like a cheep option to learn basic songs and learn how to read the piano music. Then if I really get into it I can upgrade to something much better.

Not true at all, my first 'piano' was a Schoenhut. That's where I began. I then got a Casio keyboard that was the 80's...and then my dad got me a Yamaha with I think five octaves.

Ironically that amount of octaves cleared what became to be my style as it is about as many a clavicord. ...as Bach has been extremely influential on me.

It wasn't until I had be playing for about 25 years that I finally got an actually piano.

You can definitely learn on a keyboard and as others have said, any keyboard by Yamaha is a great start, even a 61 key one would do you for now

I didn't use it the first time, and I gave it to my brother, who ended up breaking it
