he showed he truly cared for ace when he nearly murdered akainu for killing him

To be fair, garp warned him and his sworn brothers about that hard knock pirate life and wanted to train them all up to be marines (in garp's mind, he figured if ace ended up becoming a awesome marine, then all the hire ups will stop with all of the "sins of the father" BS), but ace ain't want to listen and instead preferred to follow in daddy's footsteps. Garp did what he could, but he wasn't at fault for ace getting his ass kicked by blackbeard and then handed over to the marines.

Honestly, I am more upset about whitebeard dying like he did since all that could have been avoided had ace listened to him from the very beginning. The man warned ace, "yo, do not go after this dude teach. That boy ain't right". What did ace do...he went after him, lol.

Tbh I think Garp never actually thought Ace would die, he was probably hoping "ok, this guy is the strongest man in the world bringing in all his troops, that's definitely going to be enough, right? Please be enough"

If Akainu didn't see justice for what he did on Ohara, it's a good chance he won't see any until the end of the series, and even then it will be very unsatisfying and a total cop-out.
