Is it time to stop this practice? There really is no defending it since that would admit Candice Owen's was right about Hitler "doing great things". If you cancel something you have to go all the way.

While the torch relay is a nice tradition, I wouldn't call it a "great thing", so, the premise of this topic is false.

Because of Hitler:

a lot of the grandiose shit that's a part of the modern olympics can be attributed to the nazi games from 36. so yeah, cancel it; not because the nazis started it (because fuck the nazis), but because its grandiose bullshit that has host countries spending huge sums of money for no reason.

That doesnt really effect people. Spain sharing time zones with Germany in a deal with Hitler actually is more impactful. Now the Nazi Time Zone is something that should be changed.

Germany won far more medals at the 1936 games than any other country and were a massive success to Hitler and the Nazis, sadly.

According to Jesse in the book Triumph (incredible read about Jesse Owens and his performance in the 1936 games, if you ever get a chance), he says that FDR snubbed him but Hitler didn't. Fun fact: Owens started wearing shoes made by a German company at the Olympics. That company would split into two smaller companies- Adidas and Puma.

It is shameful that nations went along with no jews in the Olympics. I do not see how removing this torch relay reverses the genocide or makes us any better. How about adding a ceromony to the Olympics which advocates for the oppressed? (I do not mind if the torch relay is removed. tbh I do not watch the Olympics.)

"A person who did lots of bad things, did X too" does not automatically make X bad. It could certianly be a reason to be suspicious of it (though I don't see the issue in this particular case), but not automatic "it's bad".
