So heres a genuine question: why do people get so, like, offended at people who dont want kids?

Like, it never seems to be oh, I totally get that, having kids isnt for everyone and its always I CANT BELIEVE YOU DONT WANT TO HAVE KIDS!!! Dont you know how fulfilling it is!? Youre so incredibly selfish!!! What a piece of trash you are!

I dont get this. When you adopt you have no idea if the mom who didnt want the child drank or did drugs. Most people that want kids do not want to sign up for the kinds of issues that entails.

To people saying "it's never been better": That's true. But we very likely live at a relative peak, and the things we had to do to get here are the exact things that will cause climate change.

At the rate we're going, we're going to be living in a world where people were used to a certain standard of living and it's going to get a lot worse. That's happened multiple times in history, very often due to environmental factors, and living during that period has been....bad. Wars, coups, revolutions, mass migrations, famines, droughts, extreme weather, pandemics, you name it.

That's what the science tells us we're heading for. You can choose not to believe it, but some of us genuinely do. And I don't want to bring kids into that because there's just no reason to. That is a rational response. I genuinely hope it doesn't happen because I don't want to live during a decline period, but it's probably going to happen based on the apathy and disbelief I see daily and in this topic.

Having said that, I agree.

But, I have 2 kids now, and I regret nothing.

I don't care if you have kids or don't. Either is fine with me. I understand why people want to have them and why others don't.

I don't think you should just pump them out every year, though. The more you have the harder it is to give them the attention and guidance they need.

I think it's because some people tend to frame their preference for not having kids as a moral one which then usually puts the decision to have kids as immoral. This leads to overreactions from the other side, etc.

Combine that with people generally becoming more open to children as they grow older, religious motivations for having children, etc. and stuff can quickly become unnecessarily heated.

It's really weird how society will accept that teenagers are old enough to decide that they want kids, but grown adults 30+ apparently are not old enough to decide that they don't want kids.

i dunno fam, everyone has their reason for wanting or not wanting kids regardless of how you feel about it. its up to each person to decide.

i for one would like to experience fatherhood. but only when i have the right conditions to do so... mainly financial.

Its selfish to want to add another uneeded life to this world?. Worlds plenty populates they won't miss one kid.

The statement in the OP is just 1 of like 50 reasons I don't want kids. My main reason though is im at work more than im at home and I'm a alcoholic. Only thing id be good foor is keeping a roof over their head food in their bellies and clothes on their back.

It's not fair to decide for others whether they should or shouldn't have children, though I think it is fair to at least let people know that it's ok to choose to not have children, especially since many people seem to be under the impression that they're supposed to have children at some point, regardless of whatever they themselves want for whatever reason.

Yeah works out for my brother and his wife as well. I'm more willing to allow them to dump their child off on me when they want a break or the need arises. I dont mind it in short stints. I love my niece but id get aggravated if I had to take care of her full time.

I actually partially raised the kid. I was the one who actively encouraged her to walk instead of crawl. Hate to say it but her parents didnr get their shit together as parents until she was almost of age for school.

A good majority of the time, childfree people don't care that much about the environment like they seem to imply, because a lot of the time, they are the biggest brand slaves I've ever seen. If you go on r/childfree, its grown adults talking about how annoying babies are or how happy they are to spend hundreds on materialistic garbage that serves them no purpose and filling the pockets of corporate bigwigs.

If they cared about the environment that much, they wouldn't give money to the people polluting the planet more than anyone else.
