It's an odd gaming quirk of mine that I will let important boss characters get offense even when I'm capable of beating them without taking damage. I tend to treat video game fights like they were movie fights and it doesn't seem right if something like Mario vs Bowser or Batman vs Joker is completely one-sided.

In the dream, I had made it to the second fight against Bowser. Deviating from reality, the fight took place inside of a pyramid and saw Bowser transformed into a giant lion with a pharaoh's headdress. With the yellow squares representing inaccessible platforms, the arena was shaped like this:

The space between the two platforms had two rows of four coins each.

  • Bowser caught Mario off-guard with a burst of flames. Mario grabbed a coin to refill his health.
  • Mario grabbed Bowser by the tail and threw him into the bomb in the upper right-hand corner. (It takes three to beat him in this fight.)
  • I let Bowser catch Mario with another blast of fire. I collect the remainder of the coins. I take notice of the fact that Bowser doesn't spit out coins when he breaths fire, so I'm not able to replenish Mario's health any further.
  • I throw Bowser right next to the bomb in the upper left-hand corner. I quickly realize my folly and Mario grabs Bowser by the tail, repositions himself, and throws Bowser into the bomb.
  • At this point, I realize I've forgotten whether Bowser jumps in Mario's direction or charges him when there's a distance between them. Mario runs away from Bowser so that I can find out. Bowser neither runs, nor jumps -- merely ambles toward Mario.
  • I decide to let Bowser get one more blast of flame so that it will be a close call when Mario wins. Bowser ceases breathing fire. I wait on him. He paces like Mario isn't even there. I wait for an awkwardly long time for Bowser to defend himself. Bowser continues to pace and not breathe fire.
  • I hit Bowser with a right cross. Me, not Mario. I hit the reset button and walk out of the room frustrated the CPU suddenly stopped fighting.
The thing that really surprises me about that dream is just the part where I missed the bomb and had to ever-so-slightly reposition Bowser to throw him into it on my second try. That's one of those nuisances from the actual game.

Bowser's lion form was taken from Bolban, a boss fight from Bomberman Hero.

The main differences were that he still had Bowser's face, he was a solid gold color, and his legs were much longer.
