So i am just going to announce it here.

After over a year i was finally able to finish the holy bible. From genesis to revelation. I just restarted it today and am halfway through genesis.

If any of you have not read the bible i highly encourage it. It helped me get through the lockdowns and helps me feel like someone is there for me when things look bleak.

I hope this motivates and encourages you to work on your spiritual life. God bless yall.

Cool, man. Whatever helps you. Ive read a couple books of the Bible. The Gospels are p interesting if you read them in a modern translation.

I wouldn't really call reading a book a life accomplishment that needs to be announced publicly, but okay

You should read Symbols of Transformation or Initiation into Hermeticism since you just finished the Bible. Humankind is not a monolith, it needs to be diverse.

TC, have you heard of the Phenomenology of Spirit? It's like the bible, but German and slightly more modern. Wild book. Read that next. Kind of dense so you might want to get it on tape.

Are you gonna read any other religion's books or just take the first one that falls in your lap as truth?

Considering it was part of my discipleship to read the book and become closer to christ and god i would say it is a life accomplishment. Its my first time through the entire book and i picked up lots of wisdom from it. I hope whatever is troubling you passes so you are more optimistic.

Thank you DJ for trying to reason with him. For me it is an accomplishment, like you said, it is a rather long book and certainly a very culturally significant piece of literature imo.

I was considering reading the muslim text and hindu text. The bible encompasses judaism and christianity, so i already sort of understand two perspectives. It all depends, my pastor said i should be good just studying and reading the bible so i do not know if i will go through with understanding all religions.

One day, I'm going to actually read through the whole bible. Not even religious, I'd like to actually know in and out the basis of the thing that I critique. >_>

Probably is but he is my spiritual mentor. There is probably a reason why he insists that i master the bible as opposed to all forms of scripture when we live in the USA.

...i am not trolling. That person asked me if i was going to read other religious scriptures and i told him what my pastor said. I do not know why you think i am trolling for being honest, especially considering what i said is not offensive in the slightest.

I mean, for starters, it IS offensive to equate the Hebrew bible to the Greek one, since there are massive canonical, ethical, and theological differences in the works. Secondly, if youre going to use a book to inform your world view, then there is no legitimate reason to limit yourself to a single book. You should gather as much information as possible before forming your opinion on what determines being a better person.

Next time you read Acts, entertain the possibility that Saul / Paul is a big fat liar trying to take down the church from the inside.

Consider:
Revelations 2 praises Ephesians for rejecting a false apostle.

In Act 19 Paul preaches for 3 months before people became obstinate to his teachings.

The Galatians 2 incident at Antioch regarding the question of gentiles being a focus of conversion vs. Jews.

And really read the message of what Paul preaches vs. what Jesus preached. I think you will find large differences.

Maybe next time do not assume people know as much as you do. I did not know there was a hebrew bible and a greek bible and that they contain different information...

I started that years ago but only got up to psalms and just got bored reading all the poems. The Bible is a pretty good read when it follows the story of Abraham's bloodline and Jerusalem.

I've read through the new testament numerous times though I've been reading a chapter everyday for years.

Getting through the old testament is rough. I would be lying if i said i understood everything. It was the hardest to get through the old testament and took me the most time. I had to read a few books from the new testament out of order to keep myself entertained and get through the old testament. This time i am going to go from beginning in order to the end.

My pastor recommended that i just read the new testament btw, it was my stubbornness that helped me get through it all
